Ray Taken Alive - Storytelling

We had the great honor of having Ray Taken Alive visit Freeman Davis today.  Ray shared several Lakota stories, shared an old language that is called hand talk, and told students about the significance of the Star Quilt.  Mr. Taken Alive told us about Grandmother Earth and the great whirlwind.  That Grandmother Earth sent the Purple Prairie Rose to the surface by the water spring and the great whirlwind didn’t want to take it, because it was so beautiful.  The purple flower made the heart of the whirlwind gentle.  The Lakota people also painted the purple flower on their Tipi’s to protect the people from the great whirlwind.
